WILL
BUSH REINSTATE THE DRAFT? by
Carl F. Worden The president said, "There's
no question we have a security issue in Iraq, and we've just
got to deal with it person to person." Let me see: There are more
than 5,000,000, mostly hostile Iraqis living in Baghdad
alone, and we've got what, 150,000 soldiers on the ground in
the entire country? That's 33 heavily armed Iraqis to
1 American in Baghdad alone, so If "we" deal with
it person to person, we're going to lose this war for sure! No, Mr. President, "we"
won't be dealing with any such thing. Our young
kids in the military, who thought they could trust you, and
who thought you knew what you were doing and that you were
telling the truth about Iraq's imminent threat to the United
States, are the ones having to deal with it person to
person. There is no "we" Mr. President.
They are dealing with it by getting killed on the average of
one per day, and more than that will be coming home with
horrifying wounds and life-long disabilities. I have
often felt the lucky ones die. Interesting poll in WorldNetDaily:
44+% of respondents haven't changed their minds about this
illegal war on Iraq, and pooh-pooh the misery of our troops
still stuck there. Heck, bad intelligence and
casualties and friendly fire accidents are a given in
any war, they flippantly say. Of course those
flag-waving crazies launch that opinion from air-conditioned
comfort while lounging in the safety of their recliners
thousands of miles from the killing fields. It is
disturbing that so many so-called Americans nowadays have
no real concept of what our kids over there are going
through, and I doubt their ability to empathize with
those who "volunteered" for military duty anyway.
But if I am as right as I usually (and unfortunately) am,
all that is about to change. A few readers have
questioned my contempt for citizens who stand on the curb
waving the flag and cheering for those about to die in an
illegal and unnecessary war. They proudly
proclaimed to be out there supporting our troops, as if curbside
flag-waving gives them some semblance of patriotism in
the eyes of others. Those idiots don't have a clue
what their duty as a citizen is. In truth, most of the
flag-waving crazies are just everyday cowards with a strong
yellow stripe down their backs that shows whenever their
duty as a citizen gets in the way of what others might
think of them. The fact is that true patriotism
means supporting and defending the Constitution of the
United States against all enemies, both foreign and
domestic, in all situations and under all conditions -- even
after a 9/11-type attack. There are no exceptions to
that rule, Mr. and Ms. Fellow Citizen, and when you demonstrate
your support for any government action that falls
short of strict adherence to that sacred document, you
are no patriot, and you certainly did not support our
troops. Nobody is foresworn to uphold and
defend the government of the United States: They swear
to uphold and defend the Constitution -- and ONLY the
Constitution. Read that again. If the government
of the United States happens to be in compliance with the
Constitution, then there's no conflict. But if the
government is not in compliance with the Constitution, then
it is the citizens' duty to object. You flag-waving
crazies failed in that duty once again, and once again,
our young kids died unnecessarily in another unnecessary
war -- just like those 58,000 kids who died in vain in
Viet Nam. Well, the chickens may be coming
home to roost right in your recliner, Mr. & Ms.
Flag-Waver. According to the Christian Science Monitor
(http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0707/p02s01-woiq.html) the
morale of our troops in Iraq is at rock-bottom right now,
and I will once again make a classic, Carl Worden,
no-brainer prediction: Say goodbye to an all-volunteer
army, and say hello to the draft of your own beloved
children. You read it here first. Yessiree, when Female soldiers in
Iraq are getting pregnant right and left and being sent
home, there's a morale problem. When soldiers start
writing anonymous letters to their congressional
representatives, there's a morale problem. Clearly,
the conditions these kids are living under in Iraq exceed
anything they were mentally prepared for, and when
expectations are thwarted, they are replaced by feelings of
disappointment, and ultimately, betrayal. To put it
bluntly, don't look for these volunteers to remain in
the military service, and don't look for very many
volunteers to replace them. If this president can't
get NATO or the U.N. to send their troops into the meat
grinder of Iraq and elsewhere, he'll eventually be forced to
reinstate the draft. The really smart people out there
will begin to position their kids in the Coast Guard
and National Guard like George H.W. Bush did for son
George W. Bush during the Viet Nam War. Yes, this
president was a very privileged boy, because it was real
tough to get into the National Guard back in those Viet Nam
War days -- but somehow he managed it. Go figure. Yes, this president who sends kids into the Iraqi killing
fields, and then challenges the Iraqi snipers to "Bring
it on", has never had a shot fired at him. But I
can assure you, ladies & gentlemen, King George
will have no misgivings whatsoever sending your sons to war
when manpower shortages call for it -- and I can hear those
manpower shortages calling already. |
